Target Market Determination

View Sharesies’ Target Market Determination (TMD)

What’s a TMD and why does Sharesies need one?

A TMD describes:

  • who a product is appropriate for (the target market)

  • who the product might not be suitable for

  • any conditions on how a product might be distributed to customers.

It’ll also outline the events or circumstances where we may need to review the TMD.

The Design and Distribution Obligations under Pt 7.8A of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) requires that we make a TMD available for the financial products we offer. The Sharesies platform is an Investor Directed Portfolio Service (IDPS) and so we have prepared a TMD for that.

This TMD helps you to understand if you’re in the intended target market of this product, and helps us to keep our customers at the centre of our approach to the design and distribution of the Sharesies platform.

What about TMDs for the investments on the Sharesies Platform?

Sharesies is not the product issuer for the investments offered on the platform. This means we aren’t responsible for the product’s disclosure documents. You should contact the product issuer directly if you would like a copy of their disclosure documents.

Only certain Australian financial products are required to have a TMD, however, other jurisdictions might require disclosure in another form. Most exchange-traded funds (ETFs) will require a TMD. These can be obtained directly from the issuer’s websites.
